What is a Virtual Assistant?

A virtual assistant (VA) is a person who provides support services to other businesses remotely. The term originated in the 90s due to technological improvements, such as high speed Internet, document sharing, and other advancements, which made working remotely a reality.

Virtual assistants are especially in demand by small businesses and online businesses that need help, but don’t want to employ staff in their location.

Although predominantly administrative virtual support, some VAs provide specific skills in different industries such as social media management, web design or book keeping.
